ADULT MENTAL HEALTH - CORE SERVICES
As a directorate we provide a range of multi-disciplinary health and social care services, consisting of community, day and in-patient facilities that are focused on Person Centred Recovery.
Adult Community Mental Health and Social Care Teams (ACMHSC)
These teams provide assessment and treatment to adults of working age who experience moderate to severe mental health problems across Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Teams
The teams aim to offer an alternative to hospital admission by providing rapid response and assessment in the community. The teams act as gatekeeper to inpatient admission and both prevent admissions and facilitate early discharge.
Inpatient Services
In Staffordshire, there are 84 acute inpatient beds which are located in Burton, Tamworth and Stafford. Shropshire inpatient wards are all based in Shrewsbury. They cover the catchment area of Shropshire, the Borough of Telford & Wrekin and some areas of Powys. The multi-disciplinary teams provide intensive treatments for adults who are experiencing severe acute mental illness.
Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
The Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit offers 10 inpatient beds in a low secure setting. These are suitable for service users whose serious mental illness seriously compromises the physical or psychological well being of themselves or others. The team provides high quality, needs led, multi-disciplinary and holistic care which is the least restrictive possible, and is committed to providing a responsive and flexible service.
Early Intervention in Psychosis Teams
The teams work with young people experiencing their first psychotic episode (in Staffordshire age range is 16-25, in Shropshire range is 14-25) and provide intensive support, intervention and information to the individual and their family. More information ...
Mental Health Liaison Service
The service covers adults at Mid-Staffordshire General Hospital, Queens Hospital in Burton, the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, who require an assessment of their mental health needs. Services provided include assessment, organising ongoing packages of care, health promotion and the development of clinical care pathways.
The Sexual Abuse Service
This service is for adults resident in South Staffordshire who are experiencing mental health difficulties related to sexual abuse. Services provided include consultation, supervision and education, direct individual and group therapy.
Day Service Teams
There are 5 day care centres spread across South Staffordshire providing a range of therapeutic interventions for adults of working age. The services include group therapy, occupational therapy, medication clinics and health promotion. In addition, there are two employment preparation units.

Castle Lodge
Castle Lodge is a facility for service users from the Borough of Telford & Wrekin who suffer from mental health problems who can be nursed near to their homes, families and carers. The unit has the ability to provide 12 beds for adults aged between 16 - 65 years.
Recovery Service
The Rehabilitation/Recovery Services in Shropshire and the Borough of Telford & Wrekin are based upon partnership working between statutory and non statutory services. Two community Rehabilitaion Units - Elms House in Shrewsbury and West Bank in Telford provide the basis of this service. Housing Associations provide supported housing and tenancy support.
Psychological Therapy Service
The service is based at Chadeslodde House, Shrewsbury and the Dawley Centre, Telford and provides psychological and therapuetic services to people in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
Abbey Works – Rehabilitation Workshop
Abbey Works is a rehabilitaion workshop based in Shrewsbury. The service offers vocational activities with the aim of providing service users with experience of work based skills within a working environment.
Social Inclusion & Recovery Service
The service has a ‘Recovery’ philosophy and works with individuals and groups in the community facilitating access to education, leisure and occupational opportunities.
Criminal Justice Liaison Service
The service is based in Shrewsbury and Telford & Wrekin. Nursing staff provide assessments of offenders with symptoms of a mental disorder who may be diverted from the judicial system into the mental health service to receive care and treatment.
That Place
This is a Young Persons Centre offering a multi agency approach to delivering early, easily accessible mental health care and emotional wellbeing for young people.
